Trick or Treat

DSC_0156-001   We had one scary witch and one cute pumpkin fairy on our hands this year for Halloween.  DSC_0160-001DSC_0162-001   The Fryes joined us again this year for trick or treating.  We started out at the park for dinner and some playtime with neighbors and friends.  DSC_0163-001DSC_0165-001DSC_0166-001DSC_0169-001DSC_0171-001DSC_0184    We couldn’t keep them away from the candy for too long.  The adults could hardly keep up this year.  These kids were on the move.DSC_0189DSC_0191DSC_0194DSC_0199     This night is just one more reason why I am thankful to be back in the neighborhood.

Pumpkin Carving

You can’t carve a pumpkin without Cameron’s artistic expertise and kids running everywhere.  This is one event we think we are doing for the kids but it really is for the adults.  The kids are pretty much good for scooping the mush out and then they are off get into whatever trouble they can find.  DSC_0138-001DSC_0141-001DSC_0142-001DSC_0145DSC_0146DSC_0147DSC_0148DSC_0150DSC_0152DSC_0154DSC_0157DSC_0158DSC_0159DSC_0161DSC_0169DSC_0176DSC_0180  Good times, good times.

Sleepover

I am still not sure how I was talked into this, but Lily and Sarah Ellen had their first sleepovers.  Thankfully not all at our house.  Caroline took the brunt of this one and had the littles over at her house and I had the middles.  These two giggly girls were beyond excited.  I had all kind of things planned:  movie, popcorn, toenail painting.  Little did I know, no plans were needed.  These two were just so thrilled to be with one another with no siblings around.

We did venture out for a treat at TCBY.  Little did I know the adventure it would be.  On our way, MA calmly and casually says, “my tooth just fell out.”  Knowing this little prankster, I didn’t think she was serious until I looked back to see the gaping whole in her mouth.  Sure enough her tooth was gone.  Unfortunately, she literally lost the tooth.  We scoured the car but couldn’t find it anywhere.  No worries, though, the tooth fairy still got the memo and made the delivery.  I am glad we could share this first with you sweet MA (although I don’t think your mamma was so glad).  photo1-001photo

While the evening and night were fun, the next day was not so much fun.  The four year old was rather cranky.  I hear she gave Olivia a run for her money on the talking – and that is saying quite a lot.

Hope you enjoyed it sweet girls, because it might be a while before we have another!

Oyster Time

It doesn’t get much fresher than this.  James scooped up some oysters while out on the canoe, brought them back and cooked them up.  You would think Lily was eating gum drops and lollipops.  That girl can put down some oysters.  Sarah Ellen actually ate a few this time and I believe she is acquiring a taste for them.DSC_0138DSC_0139DSC_0140   (Oh, and the six year old with an oyster knife was NOT my idea)

Tweetsie Railroad

Last year James and I won a silent auction bid for a weekend getaway to the North Carolina mountains.   Our hosts, Richard and Beth, treated us to a wonderful weekend of great food, yummy smores and a day at Tweetsie Railroad.

The girls loved making smores on the outdoor stone patio with a built in fire pit.  Nothing like a gigantic marshmallow and chocolate before bedtime, right?DSC_0061DSC_0062  On Saturday, we traveled the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway to Tweetsie Railroad.  Sarah Ellen was Mr. Richard’s biggest fan and did not leave his side all day.DSC_0064
Our first adventure was to board the steam engine train for a wild west adventure.  As you can tell, Lily was a wee bit anxious about the train ride, but perked up once we began.  I am proud of her for facing her fears!DSC_0067DSC_0066DSC_0071  The train periodically stopped so we could watch the adventures of the local cowboys and Indians. DSC_0073DSC_0076DSC_0078DSC_0081DSC_0084DSC_0086DSC_0092DSC_0093DSC_0095    They had plenty of rides.  Lily and I stuck with the merry go round, while Daddy, SE and Mr. Richard rode the ferris wheel.DSC_0098     Sarah Ellen with her wing man.DSC_0102DSC_0104DSC_0105DSC_0110DSC_0113DSC_0115    This little guy was roaming free!DSC_0116DSC_0122DSC_0127DSC_0128DSC_0131DSC_0132DSC_0135
Richard and Beth do not have grandchildren yet, but they sure are going to make fabulous ones one day!  Our girls gave them plenty of practice.
