Easter Party 2010

We hosted our third annual Easter party the Saturday before Easter. I love traditions and this is one that is here to stay. Check out our first annual Easter party and second annual Easter party to see how these kiddos have grown. Sorry for the crazy amount of pictures, but it was a very fun morning.

I first attempted to read the children a book about the true meaning of Easter. I think it was pretty hard for the kiddos to pay attention with all those Easter eggs staring back at them from the grass. DSC_0781DSC_0782

Then off to the huntDSC_0785 DSC_0787 DSC_0788 DSC_0790 DSC_0793 DSC_0794 DSC_0795 DSC_0796 DSC_0797 DSC_0798 DSC_0802 DSC_0804 DSC_0807 DSC_0809 DSC_0810 DSC_0811 DSC_0812 DSC_0813 DSC_0815“Hey, it sounds like there is something in here. The ones we have been finding all week in the house didn’t have anything in them.” DSC_0816“Whoa, that looks like candy in there.” DSC_0817“Hey, that is candy in there.” DSC_0818“HOW COME NOBODY TOLD ME THIS BEFORE.” DSC_0820 “I think I’ll try a little bit.”DSC_0822 DSC_0824 “Hey Olivia, did you know there is candy in these eggs.”DSC_0825”Of course I did. You do know who my parents are, right?DSC_0827

Back to the driveway to check out our loot!DSC_0829 DSC_0831 DSC_0832 DSC_0833 DSC_0835 DSC_0836 DSC_0837 DSC_0839Evidently Olivia did know what was in the eggs and didn’t quite understand the concept of no more.

Next came the Easter egg dyeing.DSC_0843DSC_0848DSC_0851 DSC_0855DSC_0863DSC_0868DSC_0874DSC_0884DSC_0888 DSC_0898 DSC_0900 DSC_0904

We also released the butterflies that Doncie and Poppy gave Lily for her birthday. We watched them grow from caterpillars. The children loved setting them free.DSC_0911DSC_0923DSC_0928 DSC_0929 DSC_0934

We spent the rest of the morning playing, biking, picture taking, tree climbing, and cupcake eating.DSC_0905DSC_0908DSC_0743DSC_0752 DSC_0754 DSC_0763DSC_0883DSC_0938Mr. Jason definitely needs a little girl. DSC_0950 I think Mrs. Alison does too. DSC_0958 DSC_0983DSC_0981

School Holiday

I love school holidays.  The last few holidays, Gabby and Maggie have come to spend the day with us.  Monica thinks that I am doing her a favor, but really she is doing me the favor.  Gabby and Maggie have grown into sweet, mature little girls and are a huge help to me.  It was even more helpful to have them with us this past Friday with Lily still being so sick.  Gabby read to Lily for 30 minutes.  Maggie entertained Sarah Ellen while Lily needed my attention.  Thank you girls for all of your help.

Since it was Good Friday, we dyed Easter eggs together.DSC_0728 DSC_0729 Then, Lily passed out in the middle of her nebulizer treatment.  She slept on the couch for two hours while we played all around her.  That was one worn out little body.DSC_0734 DSC_0735

School Easter Egg Hunt

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we barely made to Lily’s school Easter egg hunt.  But we did make it, and I’m glad my girl was able to enjoy herself some in the midst of a very rough week.

DSC_0625Sarah Ellen quickly realized that these eggs had things in them.   DSC_0626 DSC_0628DSC_0645On the hunt.DSC_0653Porter showing off his loot.DSC_0656DSC_0668 After the hunt, we settled down for a picnic lunch with friends.DSC_0676DSC_0685The kindergarten class had hatched baby chickens as a project and brought them out for all to see.  Abigail brought over a cute little chick for us to see.  This chick got a taste of freedom and decided to run for it. DSC_0695Notice Caroline behind the bushes trying to rescue little chicky.DSC_0701This picture breaks my heart as I notice Lily holding her left ear.  This is the first time she mentioned her ear hurting. A few short hours later, her ear drum ruptured.DSC_0705Finally a little boy in Abigail’s class came over and caught the little chick.  Whew, that was close.DSC_0708DSC_0727 DSC_0715

Sisters

There is nothing that a sister’s love can’t fix.  Sarah Ellen helping Lily to feel better.

Aye, Aye, Aye

My poor little Lily Bean had a rough week last week with three doctor’s visits and three different diagnoses. She is a tough little girl and hung in there as best she could.

Visit 1: After both girls having a cold for a week, I took them to the doctor on Monday morning. Lily had also been running a fever since Friday. I felt that her cold had turned into her typical asthma symptoms, but wanted to make sure she wasn’t developing pneumonia. It was bad enough that I decided to brave taking both girls to the doctor by myself. We left with two prescriptions for antibiotics and instructions to start pulmicort with a nebulizer for a month. If Lily didn’t improve, I was to take her to get a chest x-ray on Wednesday.

Visit 2: Lily stayed about the same most the day Monday, but she complained that her peepee hurt that evening. She then woke up at night screaming that her peepee hurt. Having suffered from chronic UTI’s as a child myself, I had a strong suspicion that she had developed one herself. I took her first thing Tuesday morning. After her understandable inability to peepee in a cup, we had to cath. her. All I will say is that this was an excruciatingly horrible experience. Sure enough, Lily had a pretty severe UTI for which she went on an antibiotic. My poor baby. I hated to see her have to go through this pain and wished more than anything I could take it from her.

Visit 3: Wednesday consisted of lots of TV watching and recovering. Lily was extremely fussy, but I just chalked it up to all that she had been through. Thursday morning, I was really hoping to take Lily to her school Easter egg hunt, but knew that she had to go potty before we left. It took me three hours and lots of coaxing, but she finally went. I was so glad she didn’t have to miss out on more Easter festivities due to being sick. During the lunch she started complaining of her left ear hurting. She’s not one to complain too much of pain and as time went on, I could tell she was in a lot of discomfort. So back to the doctor we go. Poor child was trying to pretend that ear didn’t hurt, because she REALLY did not want to go back to the doctor. Lily hasn’t had an ear infection since she had tubes put in three years ago, so I was thinking a bug had crawled in her ear. Of course, I was wrong and she had a “raging” ear infection in her left ear. Now we had to switch to a new antibiotic that killed ear infections as well as UTI’s. Later that evening, Lily cried out in pain and I later discovered that ear drum had ruptured.

I can’t imagine too many more painful things than catheritization and a ruptured ear drum and my baby had both in one week. I wanted to go to Wal-Mart and buy her every toy they had!

As I said, this was a rather traumatic week for my little girl. She is slowly recovering and on the mend. Here’s hoping for a healthy spring break.
