On Sarah Ellen’s actual birthday we traveled up to Surfside to spend the week with my extended family on my mom’s side to celebrate grandmom’s 90th birthday (more on that to come). We invited everyone down to the pool that evening for cake. This was a very special treat for us to be able to celebrate with aunts, uncles, and cousins that we don’t get to see very often.
With so many people, you need a big cake right? How about a 13 1/2 pound cake!! Kami and Richard ended up being responsible for the cake transport and took turns riding for 3 hours with this cake on their lap. Now that is one devoted aunt and uncle.
With a crew as large as we had, it takes a while to gather everyone together. This was pretty much torture for the little ones – staring at the cake and all the adults saying, “not yet.”
Hmm, is that icing in Sarah Ellen’s mouth?
Why yes, I believe it is.
Paige decides she needs a little taste too.
I have to explain my dad in this picture. When we arrived, I noticed that Daddy had on a muscle shirt, and thought, “okay, so he’s trying something new.” It wasn’t until later that I noticed the tattoo on his bicep. Then he pulls out the studded earring and doo-rag. No, thankfully he hasn’t hit another mid life crisis. He was just dressing up for the benefit of our motorcycle loving cousins.
Finally time to light the candles and sing.
Sarah Ellen loves her Gigi. They are the oldest and youngest Ellens in our family.
Happy Birthday my big three year old.
