Vacation Hump Day

So not every of vacation day can be perfect and I think today can certainly count as “not perfect.” The day started with me waking up with one eye crusted shut and my throat still on fire. I haven’t mentioned that for a week now I sound like a 70 year old man that has been smoking all his life. I keep thinking I have to get better soon, but every night I end up coughing my head off.

I come down stairs (my wonderful husband let me sleep in until eight) to discover that Sarah Ellen had a 101 fever. We had already decided to skip the beach this morning, so my amazing husband braved the Hammock shops with both girls while I hit Doctor’s Care. I left there with four much needed prescriptions – I can already feel the Z-pack kicking in. I also just took my first dose of cough medicine with narcotic, so hopefully the end of this post will make sense.

I got all my prescriptions just in time to meet everyone for lunch. By the way, you know I’m feeling bad when I am sitting in a Walgreens and can’t make myself shop the deals. If only we could have had a camera in the room at the restaurant. (The staff knew what they were doing when they gave us our own room – they even came to shut the door at one point). Sarah Ellen was screaming her head off and all four kids were just not in their best restaurant groove.

Mid afternoon, the men and kids head to the grocery store to get some chicken to grill. Daddies definitely get a gold star for the day. Long story short, after a great collaborative effort, dinner is ready at 7. Yikes, children with no naps, late dinner – you can only imagine the chaos. Numerous time outs, two children throwing up, sick mommies.

Finally, with babies off to bed and big kids in front of the TV, the adults sit down to enjoy a fabulous meal together and laugh over the mishaps of the day. And, of course, thank our Lord for all it. Even with craziness, we are truly blessed. I thank God for my helpful husband, my sweet baby girls, and good friends to share these times with.
