We are finally getting around to the New England trip we were supposed to take in 2020. We set off from Charleston today around lunchtime with Caidyn as our amazing Uber driver. I have to admit the thought of flying was not bothering me too much. Usually, the week before a trip, I get more and more anxious each day. I have been pretty chill this week. I am sure it helped that we hosted a huge Fourth of July party and the Porters came down for the weekend - both were excellent distractions!
The nerves kicked in as soon as I saw the airport. Takeoff seemed harder for me, but maybe I just hate it that much each time. Overall, it was a fast and easy flight. I recently took up needlepointing (thanks, Caroline and Alison)! I bought this canvas for the trip and started in the airport!
From the airport, we went straight to our hotel, The Revolution Hotel. We have the cutest room ever with 4 bunk beds. The bathrooms are in the hallway and are shared. I was VERY nervous about this concept, but they have an attendant that cleans between each use. They provide bags to carry with you full of towels, toiletries, a bathrobe and shoes! It was not a big deal for a one-night stay.
We left the hotel and walked down to the The Public Gardens, one of our favorite parks from our last visit. I should have been suspicious when SE took a pack of mixed nuts "to eat as a snack." She absolutely remembered the huge squirrels in the park that would eat right out of your hand. That child is just dying to get rabies. While at the park, we met another maltipoo. She was a 4-pound ball of cuteness named Wallaby. Maltipoo owners must have a talent for creative pet names!
As we were going to a Red Sox game that evening, we decided to walk toward Fenway and see what we found on the way to eat. On our way, we came across a local needlepoint store that happened to be having a class. We popped in and learned that the owner of our store in Charleston was just in this store yesterday. Also, two of the ladies had just been to our store in Charleston. I am learning that the needlepointing community is a small, connected group.
We came upon a cute little outdoor restaurant that had availability. We thought it was Italian, but turns out it was a chop house. We were not intending on having such a nice dinner, but we all split a few things and it was fantatstic - great french onion soup, salmon and steak.
We found our way to Fenway - no GPS necessary, just follow the crowd in red and white. It took us a while, but we finally found our seats in the outfield.
We walked the two miles back to our hotel. I just love Boston. It is such a beautiful and safe city. We each snuggled in our little bunks (with our own chargers and book lights) for a good night's sleep.
