Today we set out for Maine!! We stopped at the Maine visitor center to get some maps and chat with a guide about the ride up. The plan was to drive Route 1 up the coastline. One of the stops he suggested was the Breakwater Lighthouse in Rockland. Our first stop was the LL Bean flagship store in Freeport. The store was huge! One of the workers told me that the doors did not have locks on them. They are open 24/7/365! They even had a live concert outside.
The girls stop and pet every dog they see.
We continued driving north and took the gentleman's advice at the visitor center and walked out to Breakwater Lighthouse. It was a 3/4 mile walk out on a stone jetty.
We stopped for lunch at Moody's Diner, a cute little roadside diner that was highly recommended. I will say these are not southern green beans - where is the bacon?
Found me a Moose!!
We stopped in the seaside town of Camden to look around and browse the local stores. We continued north, quickly hit the grocery store in Ellsworth and set off to find our place. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed at first. The loft was nice, but not quite the view shown in the pictures. I think the trees have grown up a good bit. We took the path down to the water, which did have a beautiful view. We were immediately attacked by the largest mosquitos on earth. Good thing we bought bug spray at LL. Bean!
James' cousin, Ian, his wife, Felicia and their son Tucker, along with friends, drove up to the stay the night in Bar Harbor to see us and the area. We met them for dinner in Bar Harbor at West Street Cafe. We walked up the street a bit afterwards in search of ice cream. I was amazed that many of the shops stayed open until 11.
Hike: Rockland Breakwater Trail - 1.9 miles
Step Count: 15, 056 (not bad considering we were in the car most of the day)
Good night, Mt. Desert Island!
