Day 7: Hiking Acadia, Bass Harbor Lighthouse and Ship Harbor Trail

We started the day off hiking the Acadia Mountain Trail.  This was a 2.8-mile loop that took us to the Acadia Mountain summit.  We chose to do the trail counterclockwise (thanks to AllTrails) as a good bit of rock scrambles and small climbs were involved, and hiking counterclockwise allowed us to go up them rather than come down them.  Parking was easy on the side of the road right next to the trail head.
At one of the overlooks, AllTrails showed a symbol for a waterfall.  I decided to hunt it down.  Can you see the little trickle behind me?

Loving each other one minute...
pushing each other the next.
Plenty of wild blueberries to snack on along the trail.
Hike stats (I love me some AllTrails)
Distance: 2.8 miles
Total time:  1:55
Elevation gain: 755 ft
Elevation at summit:  681 ft

After this hike, we drove down to Southwest Harbor and had lunch at MDI Lobster and BBQ.  James ordered lobster and ribs not realizing he would get an entire lobster!
On to Bass Harbor Lighthouse.  Just look how excited the girls are!!

Life goals!

Hike stats:
Distance: .4 miles
Time: 27:50
Elevation gain: 59 ft

On to the next hike - Ship Harbor Trail.  At low tide, tide pools are exposed for exploring.
Just as she pets every dog she sees, she climbs almost every tree that is climbable.

Hike stats:
Distance:  1.60 miles
Time:  48:30
Elevation gain: 95 ft

We were considering driving to Sand Beach and hiking Great Head, but were all pretty darned tired.  We stopped in the town of Southwest Harbor to browse the shops and get a sweet treat.
After this we set off for Great Head, but started to assess our tired feet and aborted the plan and came on home.

James joined me on the deck for a bit but had a slight mishap with his chair.  I did not laugh tears!
Not only does hiking make you tired, but reading about hiking makes you tired!
Look!  Bass Harbor Lighthouse is on my needlepoint!!

Goodnight, Acadia!

Daily steps:  15,889
Daily flights climbed: 80
Daily Distance:  6.8
