Our original plans were to stay the night in Baton Rouge, but we hated being so close to New Orleans and not taking the girls. So we switched plans! How is that for living in the moment?? (and so many of you thought I couldn't live outside the box).
We drove through Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Some of the big cities we went through were Mobile, Baton Rouge and we took a slight detour to New Orleans. We ate lunch at the Acme, walked through Jackson Square via Bourbon Street and had beignets at Cafe Du Monde. Just the right amount of activities to say we have been there.
SE is so excited for lunch!! |

Feeding the birds in Jackson Square. This was before we saw the Do Not Feed The Birds sign. |

Lily with a street performer. She was a little freaked out when he first moved - she thought he was a statue. |
Ah back to the quiet, cool car! |
I thought the girls' eyes might pop out of their heads while on Bourbon Street. Lily wrote in her journal that she saw a man dressed as a woman and a girl with a tattoo above and between her boobs. (She did write "gross" after that). Awesome memories for them to have!
I must say the Beignets were worth the stop!
We left New Orleans and drove 2 hours to Lafayette, LA. We stayed in a small Hampton Inn off the interstate. It was rather musty and dank, but the girls thought it was the most exciting thing ever. "Wow it looks just like the place we stayed in Disney." Um, not quite the Animal Kingdom Lodge girls...
Mommy and Daddy were both pretty tired and grumpy this evening and our yucky Chinese take out didn't help much. Off to bed to wake up for a new day!

I bet the girls were COVERED in powdered sugar after the beignets....they definitely pile it on there but that's part of why it's so good . Needless to say, Neita made sure we all had enough sugar on our clothes before we finished our beignets and coffee. And yes, NO is an interesting place to visit, but wouldn't want to be there more than a day or two.
SE, that bow is seeing the country, huh? I love it!
